William Sparks Thomas opened a corset business in London during 1840. He worked for many prestigious clients including Queen Victoria. However, many women would faint due to the tightness of the corsets. His son, a chemist, created a lavender smelling-salt to help prevent women from fainting, and Crown Perfumery was born in 1872.
Crown Perfumery continued into the 20th century until it was acquired by the Lever Brothers (now Unilever). Under this name, the brand began selling hair products. Clive Christian is an English furniture maker and millionaire who acquired the company in 1999. Today, the brand has over 50 unique fragrances in its collection
