These used to be wonderful brushes. I’m not sure what happened to production quality but now they seem to only last for 1 year before the handle breaks. Very sad considering the price. I’ve purchased these brushes my entire life. Suddenly and sadly 3 have broken in the exact same spot in 4 years when the they used to last for many, many more years.
I bought this brush for my shorthaired cat. It is purrrfect for removing the loose hair, and giving her a great body massage. It is just the right size for brushing/scratching her cheeks. Turns out the sensitive boar bristles are not too soft and not too stiff for the delicate skin on a cat. Her coat has never looked better, and she absolutely LOVES her new brush!!!Prior to this purchase, I had bought a handy-sized mixed nylon and boar bristle Mason Pearson hairbrush for myself. Brushing my scalp with it for the first time was such a profound religious experience, I knew I had to procure one for my spoiled little fur baby as well. It also really smoothed down my stubborn frizzy grey hairs. It detangles very gently, without breaking the hair. My hair looks and feels amazing.I've been wasting my life, not using one of these brushes during my 53 years on this planet. What a wonderful gift a Mason Pearson hairbrush would be for a little girl with long hair! You can save a little money by purchasing a smaller sized brush. I'm doing great with the handy size even though my hair is a little thick and down to my tailbone. A larger brush is recommended for very long hair, but this one is working well for me. The pocket size is really all you need for a cat. They just don't have that much real estate.
too small, sent it back and ordered the larger one - LOVE IT!
Received my new Mason Pearson sensitive pocket hairbrush today. Not my first one: until just recently, I've had TWO of them....that I bought in England 28 YEARS AGO! One of them *just* gave out, so my new one will replace that one.Expensive? Yes. BUT, I was always taught - PAY for quality, GET quality! The cost of this new brush will, I'm sure, will be NOTHING compared to how long they last. QUALITY!!
Girl, if you’re looking at this, just get it. No other brush comes close to this for fine hair. The quality of the brush is unmatched, and your hair and scalp will thank you.
Just the best hairbrush I have ever used. The quality justifies the price of this very fine product.
My favorite brush! It’s a great size too!
This is my wife's favorite brush. Her last one lasted 15 years.
Amazing brush. Big difference from day 1.
This is an outstanding brush.
It’s the best
a smaller version and handy to travel with!
I've owned the brush for months now and have yet to notice any bristles fall out. Loose hair and product rinses out easily as well and the size is perfect to slip in a bag. Definitely high quality and I hope to use it for a very very long time to come
A great brush for tender headed kids. This was an absolute game changer for my child who hated having hair brushed. That said, I’m not sure that a generic brand wouldn’t have worked just as well. If you don’t want to fool around with possibly having to return something cheaper, get this one. It’s an investment. Just don’t lose it!
I purchased this with the expectation that it would be durable and while it peformed well, it only lasted for a year before it started to break down. Bristles began falling out in clumps, and I have gotten better wear out of an eight dollar hair brush; I expect a lot more from the 'rolls-royce of brushes.' Also, the gold writing completely wore off on the handle. Again, just poor quality control and I wouldn't buy again for the crazy asking price.
The regular brush far more “sensitive” than this so called “sensitive brush “. I’d return but three out the box bc I didn’t expect such a stiff different brush. The original far more sensitive
These brushes are extremely expensive but worth the investment. If cared for they can last years and are fabulous fir your hair and scalp.
I have used these brushes my whole life, they are the best
I love my mason Pearson brush but never want to pack my big one for trips/on the go-this brush is PERFECT for that! I always keep it in my purse and it’s amazing (light, convenient, and great size!)
I have purchased Mason Pearson products all my life. I was deeply saddened to see how the quality of the product has declined. Obviously the brushes can no longer (nor should be) made from real tortoise shell. However my recent purchase felt like cheap plastic. For a brush at this price point, it is inexcusable that anything about it should feel cheap or flimsy. One purchases a product like this for its heritage and longevity. Sadly I don’t feel that is no longer the case with Mason Pearson
Advertised as a boar bristle brush, but I received a cheap, plastic bristle brush. I'm disappointed that Mason Pearson started making synthetic bristle brushes because before, advertisers couldn't pull bait & switch deceptions like this one did. I hope Amazon makes these scammers pay in terms of return fees and penalties, because Amazon obviously can't quality check each and every individual product. And, I probably should not ignore negative reviews on products that have so many of them.
I LOVE THIS HAIRBRUSH!The first time that I used it, it felt like an itch I never knew I had was scratched 😊 This hairbrush feels absolutely amazing on my scalp. It is beautifully crafted and with care, I believe it will last for many years. I think I might have just become an unofficial brush snob now! As for bristle stiffness, I would not want softer bristles than the standard Ruby, The one made for sensitive scalps and thinning hair would probably be too soft for me. I have medium lenghth fine hair and an average scalp sensitivity.
I ordered the “sensitive” brush because my hair is very fine. I didn’t realize just how gentle it would be. I prefer the non-sensitive style, and have put this one in the guest bathroom, with little notion of using it personally.
Mason Pearson is expensive and worth every penny. The hairbrush will last you 30 years if you treat it well. This time, I found "sensitive" hair brush as my hair is thinning and I need top quality with comfort. Over time, the bristles will soften with use, but this is a classic brand. Anyone who has style and taste knows Mason Pearson...it is about time you step up from the hair salon and department store junky brushes. Keep it clean (they sell a cleaning tool) and don't let it get too wet for too long and it will last you 25-30 years.
Vendors forget that we can't see the actual product. So the listing should be detailed AND accurate. Sometimes someone's life might actually depend on the product being what is stated in the ad. As a recovering cancer patient, I need to keep plastic/nylon out of my scalp.I needed 100% (meaning all of the bristles are boar bristles from boar animal). The ad said: " Only the finest, premium-grade boar bristle, which is gentle to the hair and scalp, is used."But I received a brush and bristles were all nylon. A magnifying glass shows nothing boar about the bristles. Returned it. That's a very high price for a hair brush. Now, I distrust of Mason Pearson. It may have been a good company back in the last century. So I ordered a Dovahlia pure boar bristle brush instead. However, it measures up, I'll post my findings here on Amazon's listing for Dohahlia.
This hairbrush really works well and will last a very long time. I lost my first one after 12 years of use and carrying it not as carefully as I should have in my pocket book. I'm very happy with the replacement though I wish these brushes weren't quite so expensive
I have bought several of these brushes thru the years and love them. If the price would be less that would be great. After my old ones start to fall apart I retire them for the cats.
I have owned several boar bristle brushes (BBB) before purchasing this one as a "keepsake" brush for my 3 year old daughter. I bought the "Sensitive", soft bristle so that she can use it now on her baby fine hair as well as when she gets older as a brush for her purse. Now onto the details!I own a Denman mixed bristle brush (nylon and boar). The first thing I noticed between the MP brush and the Denman was the MP cushion was much softer. Barely press the bristles down and it gives. The Denman...nada. I literally have to push hard down on the cushion with my finger to get it to budge. No way its going to give pushing on the tips of the bristles. So if this is important to you, pay the extra buck (or several bucks!) for the MP. The MP does penetrate my daughters baby fine hair well, however I don't find it removes dust and lint from her hair quite as effectively as my Bass soft bristle wooden brush (no cushion base, also on amazon. Its the Semi Oval soft boar brush). The Bass brush as densely packed tufts of soft bristles and its very effective at moving sebum down the hair shaft as well as catching lint. However, in my experience so far, a densely packed BBB doesn't penetrate the hair because there is more flat surface area. The MP is ingenious in their design. With few bristles in each tuft, some long and some short, this reduces surface area and helps the bristles to penetrate to the scalp. So if this is important to you, buy the MP! However, with the correct brushing technique, a brush that "penetrates" is not entirely necessary to get the job done. ( I do it the old fashioned way, with my head upside down brushing the nape, then the sides, then stand back up and do the top)With all that being said, my favorite BBB are ones that have a wooden base with densely packed soft-medium grade boar bristles. I expected the MP to make my daughter's hair as soft as the Bass brush...but guess what... it didn't...at least not as fast. I feel like the denser packed boar bristle brushes move more sebum per stroke. Nevertheless, is it a quality brush? Yes, indeed! It's a very fine, heirloom quality brush which is what I bought it for. But you can get your hair soft and manageable at a fraction of the cost with cheaper, yet still great quality brands. Kent makes high quality boar bristles brushes in a wide range of styles for half the cost. Bass is great brand to try out BBB on your hair without breaking the bank, and so far mine have not shed or fallen apart.I hope this helps you determine a MP is worth the cost to you!
